APPRENTICESHIP BOOST
Apprenticeship Boost is a $500 a month payment to eligible employers of apprentices in their first year of training.
The targeted occupations that are eligible for Apprenticeship Boost from 1 January 2025 include Automotive Engineering and Technology (which includes commercial road transport), Process and Resources Engineering (which includes extractives and drilling), and Other Engineering and Technology (which includes gas).
This means that all MITO apprenticeship programmes will continue to be supported by Apprenticeship Boost.
This scheme is administered by the Ministry of Social Development with the Work and Income website providing more details.
The following information has been provided by the Tertiary Education Commission. Please direct all questions to the Ministry of Social Development: apprenticeship_boost@msd.govt.nz.
fees free
The Government decided to conclude Fees Free for the first year of study or training at the end of 2024. From 2025, Fees Free covers the final year of study or training for the first provider-based qualification or work-based programme an eligible learner completes.
If you sign-up a first-time tertiary learner for MITO training in 2025, they may be able to get Fees Free for their final year of study or training. If they are eligible, they will need to apply for the entitlement through IRD from 2026 onwards.
