VEHICLE LEGISLATION SHORT COURSE
Three-hour workshop in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington and Christchurch.
Based on industry demand, MITO has developed a Vehicle Legislation short-course aimed at vehicle salespeople and sales managers.
The three-hour workshop provides coverage of the legislation that relates to the sale of motor vehicles, including the Fair Trading Act, Consumer Guarantees Act, Motor Vehicles Sales Act, and an overview of the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Acts.
In the year ending June 2017, nearly 400 disputes were lodged with the Motor Vehicle Disputes Tribunal, a 55% increase from the previous two years.
MITO Manager Corporate Phil Urlich says “We know from our National Certificate in Sales programme that consumer law is very important for vehicle salespeople. By focusing on this content in a three-hour workshop it enables even the most experienced salespeople to refresh their understanding of their legal obligations and avoid potentially costly disputes.”
MTA Dealer Services Manager Tony Everett says “The Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 has been with us for 25 years, but the industry has continued to struggle with the interpretation of the Act and particularly with the principle of what’s ‘reasonable’. This has proved a difficult concept to apply given the wide variation in used vehicle characteristics (age, condition, odometer reading and price). As evidenced by the Tribunal decisions, the concepts are not well understood by dealers and consumers alike. This new course will help build better understanding by vehicle sales personnel.”
