New MITO training advisor for Whangārei and Northland
MITO, the training organisation for industry training in the automotive, commercial road transport, extractives, gas, and logistics industries, is pleased to introduce Mitch Guest as its new training advisor for the Whangārei and Northland regions. With deep family ties to the Northland and Whangārei region and extensive experience in the automotive industry, Mitch is well-positioned to support and guide apprentices and trainees. He succeeds Colin Kingi, who has recently retired from this position after many years of dedicated service to MITO and the community.
A former MITO apprentice himself, Mitch Guest combines industry expertise with personal experience to guide apprentices through their qualifications. Whether it’s a question about online theory modules or a need for extra support, Mitch will act as a first port of call for any queries from learners. MITO training advisors collaborate with learners, employers, and other training providers to ensure the best opportunities for skill development and career advancement.
Jodi Franklin, Regional Manager (Northern Region), commented, “We’re excited to welcome Mitch to his new role in the Northland region. Whangārei will be well supported with two training advisors: Mitch, and Arend Schoemaker who is well known to our MITO employers.”
While studying through MITO, Mitch earned New Zealand Certificates in Heavy Automotive Engineering (Levels 3 and 4) with a strand in Agricultural Equipment, and First Line Management (Level 4). After gaining his qualifications, Mitch carved out a successful career in the automotive industry but always aspired to become a training advisor. “The idea of being able to help apprentices really appealed to me. I had been doing it in my management roles for a few years, and I thought it would be great for me to give something back to industry and support our future generations,” he explains.
Mitch’s approach to supporting apprentices is grounded in professional standards and a commitment to enabling the success of his community and the industries he will serve. He intends to be there every step of the way as his learners aspire to have long and prosperous careers—his story will serve as a testament to what can be achieved through MITO.
Looking forward, Mitch is excited about the potential in his new role. He sees a real opportunity to make an impact and is looking forward to getting stuck into his work. “I’m meeting everyone from automotive electricians to collision repair technicians, from Whangārei to Houhora. The industry has changed so much over the years, and I'm excited to see the progress learners will make with my support in the Northland region.”
