Good News! Apprenticeship Boost Extended!
The Government has announced the extension of the Apprenticeship Boost scheme to 31 December 2023. The first-year apprentice subsidy to employers will change to $500 per month from 5 August 2022, matching the second-year apprentices’ subsidy which will remain at $500 per month.
“We’re delighted that the Government has seen the value of the Apprenticeship Boost scheme for growing trades training in Aotearoa,” says MITO Director Verna Niao.
“It has supported employers of apprentices over the tough COVID-19 period and has stimulated enrolments in the automotive industry and will continue to do so.”
Minister Hipkins said that since the scheme was introduced in 2020 there had been a 55 percent increase in apprentice numbers, and an 88 percent increase in the number of women doing apprenticeships. There are currently 17,000 employers receiving Apprenticeship Boost support.
