Apprenticeship Boost Extension—all MITO apprenticeship programmes included

Earlier this year, the Government announced changes to the Apprenticeship Boost scheme, which currently supports the employers of any first or second-year apprentices with monthly payments from the Ministry of Social Development. From 1 January 2025, Apprenticeship Boost will be paid only in the first year of the apprenticeship and only for employers in targeted occupations.

The Government has now named these targeted occupations, and we are very pleased that all of MITO’s apprenticeship programmes (across automotive, mining and quarrying, and drilling) will be eligible for Apprenticeship Boost from 1 January next year.

It’s very welcome news for our industries that this funding will continue to provide financial support for first-year apprentices.

Employers currently receiving Apprenticeship Boost can continue receiving payments in 2025 while the apprentice remains in their first 12 months of their training.
