Whether you are new to the industry or already experienced, this innovative training programme will provide you with the skills and knowledge to install, maintain and repair electrical and electronic components in a wide range of vehicles.

The programme includes a mix of workplace practical learning and eLearning which allows you to complete theory elements of the programme in your own time and at your own pace. You can access eLearning resources, including videos, interactive simulations and online theory assessments, at any time and from any device – mobile phone, tablet or computer. Real-time results and progress reports are available through MITO’s online Portal to both you and your supervisor.

PROGRAMME OUTLINE

Choose to complete one or both of the following qualifications:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Engineering (Level 3)
  • New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Electrical Engineering (Level 4)

Learning outcomes include:

  • Follow workplace policies, procedures and relevant regulations to work safely and effectively in an automotive workshop
  • Use tools and equipment to complete basic workshop engineering tasks
  • Apply fundamental automotive engineering knowledge to service engine, and driveline systems
  • Check operation of, and perform minor repairs on, electrical and electronic systems
  • Apply fundamental automotive engineering knowledge to service steering, suspension and brake systems
  • Monitor the workplace and respond to issues as required to maintain a safe and effective workplace
  • Diagnose and repair or replace sensors and actuators, control units and associated wiring and communication networks
  • Use specialist tools and electrical component diagrams to locate, repair and replace wiring looms
  • Design, build, install, test and modify a range of electrical systems, electrical accessory systems and communication systems
  • Configure and customise system software to achieve a desired result.
