Why should someone consider this industry for a rewarding career?
I wish I was told a trade was an option while I was at school. If I had started in this industry when I left school, I’d be further ahead in life. I had a mate who did that and he now owns his own transport company. People need to know all their options, then they can find their passion. This industry is mine!

What attracted you to this job?
I’ve always been into cars and I enjoy the mechanical side of things. My dad was a mechanic when I was young so it’s in the blood. Plus, heavy automotive mechanics get paid well so that was definitely an incentive for me!
What do you enjoy about your work?
It’s hard to pick one thing. It’s like a family here and the team environment is awesome. Plus, the technology you’re working on is incredible and I love diagnosing the problem and then being able to fix it. I’ve almost finished my apprenticeship now and I’m getting a lot more responsibility. Once I’m qualified, the opportunities really open up.
Why did you decide to get qualified through MITO?
When you’re qualified you’ve got those skills and knowledge for life, you’re in high demand within the industry and you can take it anywhere. It will give me a great sense of achievement.
What are your career aspirations for the future?
I’m really motivated to progress to foreman, then service manager. There is great career progression – and the higher up you go, the more you get paid!
