MITO's on-the-job Goods Service programmes are designed for people working in the road freight sector driving large goods service vehicles (Class 4 or Class 5).

PROGRAMME OUTLINE
______

The National Certificate in Goods Service (Heavy Vehicle Driver) (Level 3) will enable you to:

  • Identify and respond to hazards
  • Select and record routes
  • Prepare a heavy motor vehicle for use
  • Safely drive either a Heavy Rigid (Class 4) or Heavy Combination (Class 5) vehicle (dependent on the strand you select)

Learners can also complete optional strands, designed to recognise the specific skills required to transport bulk dangerous goods.

These programmes include theoretical and practical training and assessment to ensure drivers are knowledgeable, competent and safe drivers. This qualification also provides a pathway to higher level national certificates including the National Certificate in Business Skills (First Line Management) (Level 4) and the National Certificate in Commercial Road Transport (Goods Service Senior Driver) (Level 4).

The National Certificate in Commercial Road Transport (Goods Service Senior Driver) (Level 4) will enable you to:

  • Demonstrate advanced driving techniques and a professional attitude to driving
  • Mentor new drivers and be a role model
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and managers
  • Apply organisational policies and procedures
  • Manage a group of drivers and vehicles.

Learners choose to complete one of two strands, designed to recognise the specific skills required for heavy rigid vehicle drivers or heavy combination vehicle drivers.

The Goods Service Senior Driver programme is designed for experienced truck drivers to fulfil a senior driver or training role within a transport organisation. It includes both theoretical and practical training and assessment to ensure drivers can effectively mentor, train and manage drivers and vehicles. This qualification builds on the National Certificate in Goods Service (Heavy Vehicle Driver) (Level 3).
