Trucks require regular servicing and maintenance to cope with the demands placed upon them and we need skilled parts advisors that can supply the parts needed to keep the trucks on the road.

What does a Parts Advisor do?
In its lifetime, a truck will easily drive in excess of 1,000,000 Km and they can only drive these vast distances if there is a reliable source of parts. Parts advisors perform a vital role in keeping trucks on the move as they are responsible for ordering, selling and managing parts and accessories for a wide range of vehicles and trailers. Good communication with customers is the key to outstanding customer service and customers include Truck Stops branches, members of the public and other garages.
A parts advisor’s duties include:
- Taking orders from customers over the phone, by e-mail or face to face
- Using a computer to find and access parts information and locations
- Raising invoices for parts that are sold
- Liaising with other members of staff and departments
- Upselling parts and accessories
- Sourcing local and international parts
- Regular stock checks
- Maintaining displays and seasonal promotions.
What Skills are we looking for?
To be a parts advisor you will need to be able to demonstrate that you have:
- A good memory and recall of information
- The ability to develop customer relationships
- The ability to multitask and prioritise tasks
- Good communication skills
- The desire to provide outstanding customer service – every time
- The ability to work flexible hours
- The ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Achieved NCEA level 2 in English and Maths.
Ideally, you will have a background in automotive parts, however, this is not a mandatory requirement.
Parts advisors usually work around 40 hours a week, from Monday to Friday. When an apprentice or parts advisor is deemed ready to go on call and/or work weekends, they have an opportunity to work more hours and earn an increased wage. This is usually accompanied by a roster system at most branches.
